Amazing New App for Genealogist

 Amazing New App for Genealogists

My Heritage, a genealogy company, has introduced a new app that can make pictures come alive. Its new service called Deep Nostalgia animates the faces of folks in old photos, creating short videos that look like they’re posing before the camera shutter’s click.

On MyHeritage’s website, you can make high-quality, realistic videos in a snap. When you upload a photo, it goes through Deep Nostalgia’s drivers, which apply a set sequence of gestures. Then, the tool applies those movements to your photo, which lets you see your ancestors smile, blink and move around.

Although the videos can look a bit robotic, they also give you a new perspective on people we’ve lost to the sands of time. Since so many historical photos are small and blurry, Deep Nostalgia enhances the photos and sharpens their faces.

To try this on a photo, go to My Heritage Deep Nostalgia page and up load a photo.  At this time, it does not animate group photos but you can pick the person you want to animate.

Try this with one of your photos.  The company does ask that you use it only for pictures of people who are no longer living.

What about those old devices?

In a traveling castle, nothing comes along without purpose.  But... what about those once costly  electronic devices?  Updated your phone, tablet or laptop? -- step away from that trashcan!  We discard too many electronic components in landfills to the detriment of the planet and our water.  So...what can you do?  First, consider recycling your device by giving it to a grandchild or taking it to a recycler like Best Buy, Staples or Home Depot.  Just remember to remove all personal information.

Wiping personal data off your devices

Another option is to repurpose the device for another use.  Want to check on your dog while you're gone?  Set up a security camera with your old phone camera or tablet and access it with your new phone. You can use an old tablet or phone to stream your media. They can also become an e-reader.  No more dragging along pounds of books.   Check out how to set up your devices for these
possibilities and more below.

How to Make Digital Copies of Your Vinyl Records, CDs and Tapes

Although many utilize streaming music services, we still have CDs, cassettes and records gathering dust  on a shelves that we'd like to take with us.  This article on Kim Komando will help you do just that.  Read the introduction and then go to the site for the rest of the article and specifics for your musical material.

When’s the last time you set foot in a record store? If the thought sounds quaint to you, you’re not alone. In 2018, streaming music overtook physical albums in terms of sales for the first time — and since then, streaming platforms have only continued to expand their reach.
The lasting effects of this shift are impossible to ignore. Millions of people no longer own most of the music in their collections and are able to carry hundreds of albums in their pocket at the same time. Tap or click here to see which streaming services give you the most music for your money.
But those of us with big physical music libraries aren’t about to pay twice for the same songs we already own. Instead of signing up for a bunch of new services or charging your credit card for music downloads, here’s how you can take your physical albums and transform them into a digital collection you can listen to anywhere.

How to share medical information
on your phone in an emergency

For Android Users

Over the last few years, mobile devices have become an integral element to healthcare. Personal health apps, such as fitness tracking and weight loss, lead the pack. Additional health-related apps welcomed by consumers and physicians alike include doctor on demand, prescription management, and patient portals.
Beyond routine medical care, your Android smartphone can be a valuable tool during an emergency. Setting up SOS messages or Panic button and emergency contacts in your Contacts list is a must for all mobile device users.

The reason you need to go to the links below each paragraph.  In order to comply with copyright laws and be fair, I contacted Kim Komando and inquired how to share her material with others.  This is the way it was requested with only a portion of the page and a link to the rest of it.  There is much good material when you go to the links, so please do.

Arts and Crafts for the Pandemic

Create a Paint by Number of Your Favorite Photo

The Internet has everything...doesn't it.  Remember those fun color by number pictures you did as a child?  Now, you can take that favorite photo and create and paint your own picture.  There are a number of utilities on the web that will take a picture and create an outline drawing and a paint by number with your color palette.  You, then, can download and print your project. There is no fiddling with a software on your computer.

My favorite Paint by Number converter are
PBNify ...https://pbnify.com/ You select the spot colors you want for your pallette.

Color Dragon ...https://www.color-dragon.tk/  Colors are automatically selected. (Think this one is good for kids.)

Here is a picture tutorial for PBNify ...https://www.shrimpsaladcircus.com/how-to-turn-a-photo-into-paint-by-numbers/

This video is on how to use PBNify but the basic premise is the same for the Color-Dragon.

Hope this give you another fun project.

This article also contains illustrated directions for creating groups in Kindle and shelves in Nook.  There are some other organizational sites listed there as well.  Book Cave is another source of free books to add to your list.
